Chalkidiki Greece, a piece of paradise
Summer vacation to beautiful Chalkidiki
Chalkidiki is not the most known location in Greece for vacation. But it’s beautiful and breathtaking. The beautiful bays, sandy and intimate beaches, the crystal clear water. It all felt so serene and peaceful. A peace of paradise on earth.
Beautiful bays, terrific food, friendly people
“We rented a car and had a map of Chalkidiki. Not google maps, but a paper map you can buy at a gas station”
We visited Chalkidiki twice. Both times the end of June, before the big summer holiday would start. If you see the map of Chalkidiki it has three fingers: Kassandra, Sithonia, Athos. Kassandra is the more touristic part. We stayed in Sithonia, the quieter part and perfectly located for us.
We rented a car and had a map of Chalkidiki. Not google maps, but a paper map you can buy at a gas station. My husband drove the car, and I navigated. Which wasn’t that hard, you just need to know on what side of the sea you are driving. We found beautiful bays and beaches where we would stay for hours. We were the only ones there, it felt like a private beach.
“We were living our own adventure and having a great time”
We hardly used our phones, just the paper map. The map used a symbol of an anchor to indicate where the ports are. Soon we discovered that if there is a port, there is a restaurant. And I’m not talking about big ports, but small ports with a local restaurant. We loved it!
The food was terrific and the people were very friendly and welcoming.
Never did we use tripadvisor or google maps to find restaurants or places to see. And we did get lost a few times, but we didn’t mind. We were living our own adventure and having a great time.
We visited Kassandra a few times, because we like to do some shopping and nosing around the stalls that were there. The restaurants were on a cliff from which you had a beautiful view over the bay and the sea.
Vourvourou is just unforgettable
“We anchored in front of the islands and swam to the island to discover the island”
My favorite part of Chalkidiki is Vourvourou. We rented a small motorboat and did some island hopping. What an unforgettable experience this was! The crystal clear water was breathtaking. We anchored the motor boat several times. We anchored in front of the islands and swam to the island to discover the island. We anchored in the middle of a beautiful spot with crystal clear water. There we would go in the water with our floaties and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
No sense of time
We had no sense of time. Time didn’t fly by and time didn’t stop. Time just didn’t matter, like it wasn’t there. That feeling is indescribable. I tried to get that feeling again, but it was after I moved to Spain that I could (and still can) experience that feeling regularly.
And I knew; That feeling, the beauty, peace and joy that Chalkidiki gave me, wasn’t just meant for when you are on holiday. It’s meant to be a big part of your life.
