A new life, moving to Spain – part 2/2
A new life, a new country, this idea feels so good!
We were in the plane, flying back to Holland, and I remember feeling ecstatic. I felt excitement and so much joy flowing through my veins. It felt like getting a kitten for your birthday (I love cats and horses and dogs, and all other animals). It felt like you finally graduated after all these years of working so hard for it. It felt like when you finally meet your person and madly fall in love. Well, you get the idea of how it felt. It felt like all these things where you just know that it is right, that this is how it should be and will be. A new life, a new country, the idea gave me so much joy and motivation!
“Is it possible for us? Moving to a new country?”
My husband and I were talking on the flight back to Holland about what it would take to move to Spain, to get settled in a new country, to start a fresh new life. ‘Is it really possible? How about our jobs? Our family and friends? Are we going to sell our house? Is the house in Spain that we like so much available? Can we afford it? How do we need to apply for a mortgage? When do we move? When can we move?’.
Throughout the years we have spoken many times about our desire to move abroad. Only the time never felt right, but now time felt more than right.
Of course we were also very mindful about our daughter (she was also very excited and positive to move to Spain), and we involved her in every step. Making sure she would have a smooth transition was very important for us. I can tell you that now, 3 years later, this is home for our daughter. She loves it here!
Ready for making a major change in our life
In all these questions we were asking ourselves, we didn’t see any obstacles. I was thinking ‘Does my husband want this as bad as I want this?’. So I asked him and he said he was thinking the same, If I would want this as bad as he wants this. It was crystal clear for us. My husband and I had a big smile on our face and I asked ‘So are we really going to do this? Moving to Spain?’ and my husband replied ‘We are really going to do this! Moving to Spain’. And before we landed on Dutch soil, we decided to move to Spain. We were ready to make this major change in our life.
“But there are also decisions where you can feel it in your heart with a clear mind”
Follow your heart, have faith and not let fear get in the way
There are decisions that you need to take your time for and not get rushed into things. And I think it’s not good to make big decisions when you are feeling emotional. But there are also decisions where you can feel it in your heart with a clear mind, that that decision is the right decision to take. That is the path you need to follow. And then that’s what you need to do, follow your heart, have faith and not let fear get in the way.
